sculptor Helen Rogers

Helen Rogers

The creative work of sculptor Helen Rogers is bold and vibrant. Her work is a combination of the geometric abstract and whimsical realism. She uses a variety of materials, i.e. tiles, stain glass, beads, jewellery, pottery, stones and anything else that “works”. The resulting sculpture is a colourful reflection of fun, whimsy and light.

Helen Rogers enjoyed a very satisfying career as an art teacher with the Edmonton Public School Board from 1970 – 2001. She has attended university courses in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and art history. She has continues to expand her art skills by taking watercolour workshops (Oregon and Qualicum Beach), art welding classes (Red Deer College), clay workshops (U of A Extension), stained glass, cement, ice carving and styrofoam sculpture. Currently Helen has focused on her whimsical mosaic sculpture. Basically self-taught, she continues to explore and expand her use of mosaics in both two and three dimensional art.
