“Process is my drug of choice,”
Ritchie Velthuis is an artist who will take a close and warmly personal look at you. He has experimented during clay short modelling sessions to building monumental snow sculptures. Although some projects take time, immediacy is the quality that draws him to both clay and snow. In a project titled Neighbourhood Icons, he recreates his neighbours as visceral ceramic portraits, revealing his communities hidden gems. He demonstrates the true beauty and worthiness that individuals hold in a community.
Ritchie Velthuis was born and raised in the Edmonton where he has taken part in projects from chairing the Silver Skate festival, working with the Edmonton Coalition on Homelessness and Housing to creating a public sculptures.
