William Johnson

“I believe the moment Art making becomes too easy, comfortable or predictable is the moment when true creativity stagnates. It is at this moment the artist needs to abandon that comfort zone and step off the edge, into the unknown.”

William Johnson received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts.
He has created sculpture for public/private commissions and participated in personel and group exhibitions.
William Johnson is involved in various Edmonton Arts festivals through-out the year and works within the public school system as a Sculpture Workshop instructor and Resident Artist/private mentor.
As a Commercial Artist he has worked in the film business in Los Angeles, Boston and Edmonton, producing sculptural props/signage and sets. This work has been displayed by Disney, Universal Studios and an array of well-known advertising/publishing firms.
He works in a multitude of mediums including steel, stone, clay, resin, plaster, concrete, fiberglass and foam. Subject matter ranges from the beauty of the natural world to the diversity of the human condition. At present he is working on a large Architectural/Sculptural commission for the Slave Lake Wildfire Legacy Centre, located in Slave Lake, Alberta as well as a private Sculpture commission for a vineyard in Naramata, B.C.
Currently William Johnson is President of the Sculptors’ Association of Alberta and a member of the Edmonton Arts Council, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre and the Visual Arts Alberta Association.
