Darcy is a multi-disciplinary artists with a focus on fibre art. Her fibre work includes embroidery, needle felting, weaving, and rug hooking. She also sculpts in both clay and wood.
Darcy’s work is motivated by the desire to develop the story behind the image. Her ideas are all influenced by centuries of women’s experience with craft and art, and the historically gendered divide between art and craft. She finds inspiration in Edmonton’s historical, social, and natural landscape. Her common themes are Alberta flora and fauna, childhood, and iconic representations of women.
Darcy is a current student at the Royal School of Needlework in London, UK, working towards a Certificate in Technical Hand Embroidery. She has completed certificate classes in Blackwork, Silk Shading, and Jacobean Crewelwork and is currently working on the final module in Goldwork. She has also completed a self-guided video class in Whitework through Royal School of Needlework.
Darcy has taught embroidery classes for the needlecraft guild.
Darcy has been a board member for both the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and Sculptors’ Association of Alberta.
In Her Own Image Studio is a sunny, garden-adjacent addition to Darcy’s Edmonton home.
